People don’t change their behavior unless it makes a difference for them to do so.’ Fran Tarkenton Motivation is one of the most important factors affecting the behavioral and the performance of the employee. Getting people to do their best work, even in trying circumstances, is one of manager’s most enduring and slippery challenges. Employee’s motivation is a major factor in the success or failure for any organization. Without a motivated workforce, productivity, morale, profits, product and service delivery suffers. To stay competitive organizations must invest in effective strategies to motivate the employees. Motivation is an internal driving force which results in persistent behavior directed toward a particular goal. The rationale of this study was to assess the motivational techniques used by public sector in India to arouse its employees to perform better. In the present paper sample of 117 Class I, Class II and Class III employees working in different offices of New India Assurance Company on the basis of convenience sampling technique was taken to draw the responses and elicit the results. The paper also tried to explain the importance of employee’s motivation, describes the concept of motivation, and identifies different type of motivations. The decisive finding of this research was significant positive relationship between employee’s motivation and job satisfaction and motivation and performance of the employees. Pearson’s coefficient of correlation has been conducted to indicate relationship between the variable Class and the responses of the employees.
